Optimized Battery Charging
There is a setting in macOS that you can adjust. Optimized Battery Charging (or Smart Charging) is a feature designed to reduce wear and tear on your laptop's battery by minimizing the time it spends fully charged.
How it works:
-
Learning your routine: The feature learns your daily charging patterns, such as when you typically unplug your laptop.
-
Delaying charging: Once enabled, the laptop will delay charging past 80% when it predicts you'll be plugged in for an extended period.
-
Ensuring full charge: It aims to ensure your laptop is fully charged before you unplug, even if it delays charging initially.
Benefits:
-
Extended battery lifespan: By reducing the time the battery spends at full charge, you can extend its overall lifespan.
-
Reduced wear and tear: Lithium-ion batteries age faster when they are frequently fully charged and discharged, so limiting the time spent at full charge helps reduce this wear.
When to disable it:
-
Traveling or working away from a power outlet: If you need to ensure your laptop is fully charged for a long period of time without access to a power outlet, you might want to temporarily disable the feature.
-
When you need a full charge quickly: If you need to charge your laptop to 100% quickly, you can disable the feature temporarily.

Click on the "i" next to Battery Health

In this screen, check to see if the "Optimize Battery Charging" is toggled on. If so, toggle it off. You have an option to turn it off for a day or turn it off altogether.
